Knowledge Web is a Network of Excellence that aims to support the transition of Ontology technology from Academia to Industry. The current consortium is integrated by 18 participants including leading partners in Semantic Web, Multimedia, Human Language Technology, Workflow and Agents. The NoE will concentrate its efforts around the outreach of this technology to industry. Naturally, this includes education and research efforts to ensure the durability of impact and support of industry.

Finnish Virtual University is one of the partners in the EU funded eLene-TT project developing a European Virtual Learning Resource Centre, which provides guidelines and resources for both teacher trainers and teachers to support them in web-based education production. Through student-driven teacher training, the project also pools and tests out tools and approaches developed by each of the partners in the wider European context.

The challenges that we meet in Norwegian adult education are often comparable to those that we find in other European countries. The problems we look upon as genuinely Norwegian may already have found their solutions somewhere else.
Several Internet-based platforms have been created in recent years, opening for enormous possibilities for the integration of cross-cultural communication in adult education.

OECD is now moving beyond economic and employment effects as measurable outcomes of education. This reflects an awareness that education has a significant role in improving many aspects of the quality of life. This project, supported by 12 countries, aims to explore the causal links between education and major social domains such as health (mental and physical) and civic engagement. It also covers the way parental education affects the lives of younger generations, and the way the benefits of education are distributed across different social groups. It combines modelling work with empirical analysis, and proposals for indicators for further data-gathering.

DEKAR is a Nordic project, funded by Nordisk Industrifond, looking into the factors that need to be considered when designing future work environment. The main problem that the project attempts to shed light on could be summed up as follows: How can we use the work environment to increase innovation, communication and group work in the Nordic work place?
